It's going to be hot this weekend, with temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits. We always want everyone to stay safe in what can be potentially dangerous weather.

Softball Tourney to Benefit Jessica Lee

The Carroll County Recreation Department will host a benefit for Jessica Lee, a cancer-stricken little girl, near the end of July, with proceeds to help her family cover medical expenses.

The tournament is open to all ages, and tournament organizers are hoping to pull together at least two teams for the ages 6 and under bracket, two teams in the ages 7 to 12 bracket and as many teams as possible in the ages 13 and up bracket.

The Finishing Touches at Little Tallapoosa Park

Crews are hard at work completing the comfort station at the new Little Tallapoosa Park, and tent campers should expect to have a place to bathe and do laundry around the July 4th holiday.

While the more than seven miles of unpaved trails are already open and ready for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrian fanatics alike, the paved trails aren't quite finished yet. They're expected to be open before the end of July.

Keeping the Roads Paved

The Carroll County Public Works Department has amassed quite a resume since the national economic recession began in 2008. They've paved 18.3 miles of dirt roads and resurfaced 112 miles of already paved roads. On top of that, they've treated an average of 65 miles of dirt roads annually with a calcium chloride solution to keep down the dust, and that's just in the last four years.

Roopville Farmers Market:
The Roopville Farmers Market will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. by the Roopville Archives building in the city’s downtown. Set up is free.

The SCRAP Bin, a source for community recycled artistic products that encourages creative reuse, is hoping to build the largest plastic bottle sculpture the world has ever seen, and you can be a part.

The Bin is currently accepting plastic bottles to go toward what will be a 50,000-bottle dragon sculpture that will be big enough to walk through. Design work is complete, and the big push to get the sculpture finished will begin on July 4.

Court House Annex Razed (Updated)

Demolition crews have finished razing the Historic Court House Annex in downtown Carrollton to make way for the atrium to the $16.9 million new Carroll County Court House. The Historic Court House will remain untouched.

Officials expect the area that previously housed the Annex to be completely cleared of rubble shortly, with work to begin on the two-story atrium within the next few weeks. The entrance to the new Court House is expected to be finished by January of next year.

The Community Foundation of West Georgia is holding its 3rd Annual Juried Art Show from June 1 through June 29 at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Aron Houdini Performance:
Aron Houdini will perform a family oriented magic/escape show at the Mill Amphitheater in downtown Villa Rica on June 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
